Our ‘What Black Staff Need from White Managers’ event took place on the 18th February, with over 500 people registered to attend.
Executive Coaches Claudia Crawley, Jessica Rogers and Obehi Alofoje, (all listed in the Diverse Executive Coach Directory) joined me to discuss the following questions and much more:
- Q1. Managers just want to treat all staff the same to maintain fairness, what do you think about this approach?
- Q2. Microaggressions, like ‘ you speak well for a black person’ or ‘I thought you were a single parent’ appear to be small mistakes, why do they matter so much?
- Q3. What’s your top tip for helping White leaders to support their black staff in the workplace?
We received fabulous feedback:
Sarah Hewitt : Some fantastic and thought provoking ideas here that I am taking back immediately
Natalie Garrett Brown: thank you all, a really rich conversation, and an amazing panel
Karen O: Would love another event. Discussions have been rich and insightful. Thank you all
Susi Castle: Thank you everyone, this has been such a helpful session. I feel very lucky to have started my morning with you all
Below is the recording of our discussion, we hope that our insights will provide an invaluable and refreshing pause, offer new perspectives and challenge your thinking.
