Why you need to lose in 2016

At this time of year you are likely to be visioning your success for 2016.  This is of course a great thing to do when accompanied by realistic planning.

You may have one important thing missing from your plan. Have you considered what you might need to lose in order to be successful?

For example, the person who studies may have to lose old ideas before they can embrace the new information. The person who wants to run a marathon may need to lose hours usually spent watching TV in order to train, and the person who wants to network may need to lose the fear of speaking to strangers.

Your willingness to lose directly impacts your ability to succeed. Here are three things you definitely need to lose in 2016:

Lose your need for independence

Ok, I am the first to admit that I pride myself on being pretty independent, I can handle a drill well enough to put up a shelf, change a fuse and I can cook too and I want my daughter to be the same, but there is a difference between independence and being interdependent. ‘Dependent people need others to get what they want. Independent people can get what they want through their own effort.

Interdependent people combine their own efforts with the efforts of others to achieve their greatest success.’ You cannot achieve alone, get support, advice, knowledge and collaborate as much as possible.

Lose your limiting beliefs

Henry Fords advice ‘‘whether you think you can, or you think you can’t–you’re right.” Still holds true. Developing the mind-set for success means losing those limiting beliefs, the little voice that says that you can’t do things, the one that says you are not good enough, bright enough, good looking enough; the voice that limits you from living as fully as you would like.

Lose your fear

Anyone who has ever had to speak in front of an audience knows that you need to make the nerves and adrenaline you feel your friend, it’s the same with fear. To lose fear you have to decide that fear is another form of excitement not something to steer clear of.  You have to trust that you’ll learn from every fearful experience you engage in. After all ‘Fortune favours the brave’

So plan to lose as well as to succeed in 2016. What will you lose?

My mission is to transform the world for everyone, one empowered woman at a time. I use my years of experience in coaching and leadership to inspire and motivate people, working with them to deliver career and life changing results beyond expectation. Find out more at www.rockingyourrole.com
