Three Ways to Harness Technology to Further Your Career

Technology moves at such an incredible pace that it can sometimes seem a little daunting, especially when using it for business. However, this ever changing world is an incredible opportunity to get yourself heard.

It’s almost as if the internet streets are paved with gold, as the potential to succeed is unlimited. It takes just one person to share your content for it to have a chance to go viral.

Of course, everything you post won’t make it to the national press, it may not even generate likes in double figures, but it’s out there, while you’re sleeping, giving you the best chance of being found and being a success.

Many marketers scratch their heads when posts do go viral, as there is no hard and fast guarantee. For instance a video of a cute duckling may generate millions of views in a day one week, but sit lonely and unloved the next.

There are however tricks you can use to maximise the potential, we’ll start with how you can use technology today to enhance your career overnight.

Use What You Know

Everyone has a sound grasp of the internet these days. Whether you use it for shopping, chatting with friends or checking your bank balance, you have skills that you may not notice.

Tapping into what you already know is a great way to start using technology to your advantage.

For instance, do your Facebook friends know about your business ventures? When leaving a review on a product have you let people know where to find you? Do your online profiles include a bio and a link to your personal or professional profiles?

You have an online network through personal connections you may not be aware of and every connection you have has an average of 200 friends you’ve yet to meet, who could be looking for someone like you.

Give Something Back

You will always know more about something than others, whether your an expert or just passionate about a subject. Harness this and use your expertise and knowledge to help others while giving yourself a voice of authority at the same time.. Seek out forums and blogs that could use your advice. Publish your own blog or video diary teaching others what you know and become the ‘go to’ person.

Fake It Until You Become It

If the thought of giving a face to face pitch, or selling yourself and your skills at a networking event fills you with dread, use technology. The great thing about the internet is that you can hide behind a screen and fake the confidence you need to really get your point across. You can approach almost anyone by email and shout about your successes online. All too often we’re told to be humble and meek when it’s confidence that is proven to sell products, services and YOU!

No one can tell in an email if you’re quivering with butterflies inside. Try it. Next time you post online, read your text back and see what you can do to make it sound more self-assured. Make it happen.
