“Motivate” is a word that comes from Latin “serving to move.”
So when we motivate, our behaviour, language and engagement “serves to move” our colleagues to action, willingly rather than forcibly.
When you motivate, you need to ask, What does my colleague value? How do they like to be rewarded? What will make them want to strive to the desired goal? Remember there is no one size fits all solution to motivation!
