My wonderful intern Adele, wrote her reflections on attending my programme, it was rich with learning, so I thought I’d share it with you….
Hello, my name is Adele, I am working with Jenny Garrett, Women’s Coach of the Year, as an intern for six weeks. I am studying International Marketing at a Rouen Business School in France. My first day with Jenny coincided with her running the Female Breadwinners Leadership Success Programme. Here is my view of the day. (I am the one to the right in the photo below)
The day began at 9am. Women from all corners of the United Kingdom were present for a special day: an entire programme concerning “Female Breadwinners Leadership Success” led by Jenny.
We Learn most when we are at Play
We started with a playful introduction of each person to get to know each other. Each person had to choose one image and one quote, which reflected her way of seeing life. Jenny reassured everyone and made the atmosphere comfortable so that every person was willing to participate. She also took time to show an interest in each person with nice touches such as listening to our favourite songs and by remaining very open and paying close attention each persons needs.
Leadership Emerges from Your Own Life Story
We have learnt that leadership emerges from your own life story. The challenge was therefore to discover ourselves well enough through an exercise. Jenny reassured that there is no right or wrong answers and to just go with their energy. Each woman shared her story. Some participants found it easy to break free and to say all they want while others found it difficult to reflect on themselves at first.
Everything You Want is on the Other Side of Fear
After a break, the programme continued with a phrase that stuck with me: “everything you want is on the other side of the fear”. We understood that we have to accept the fear as part of our life; we just have to know how to manage it. We have learnt the importance of setting clear purposes in our daily life because when you become a mother, your life change with your priorities because it’s a full-time job but you have to listen to yourself by finding your space and take time for you and only YOU without any guilt.
We must Live on Purpose
The women set a list of the top 10 and then of the top 5 purposes in their life. They found it was good to reflect on purposes and very useful to explore their life with challenges because it motivated them.
Some important key concepts to consider are firstly the “patience” to get changes in our life and also the word “trust” which was touched on several times during the day because trust whether in the workplace or in personal life help to avoid stress.
Lunch was provided and although participants were free to go out, they stayed and continued to share their experiences. There was a real involvement from everyone and the desire to develop positively.
It’s Ok to be You
Jenny here focused on communication as a leader, knowing ourselves and understanding others better. Nothing is more important than this question that few people really know how to answer: “Who am I?” , it led to numerous reflections on the people and things that make you the person you are now and to understand that it’s ok to be you.
Confidence Comes From Action
The day ended on personalised tips and action, which everyone contributed to. At that moment I really felt the satisfaction of every woman that attended, all with different expectations, but now with the tools to make their lives easier and lighter.
Final Thoughts
This day, that was for me my first day of discovery in the “Coaching World” of Jenny has been a great opportunity to learn a little from everyone’s point of view and way of seeing life. I now think and I will retain that in life it’s up to you to find beauty in the ugliest days and so select and keep in a corner of your head only the positive points that every interesting person can teach to you daily, directly or indirectly. It can be a phrase, a motto or a way of seeing life. Go ahead and keep in mind that everything is possible.
Thanks a lot to Jenny, the best boss I could have for my London experience and if you want to experience her programme too, you can do so here http://rockingyourrole.com/female-breadwinners-leadership-success-programme/
